Pringsewu - A motorcycle theft that has been disturbing residents of Pekon Tanjung Dalam, Pagelaran District, Pringsewu Regency, has finally been uncovered. A man who stole his neighbor's motorcycle was arrested by the police. Not only was the main perpetrator arrested, but the receiver of the stolen motorcycles was also arrested. The two men now facing legal action are AP (27) and JW (47). AP acted as the executor of the theft, while JW was the receiver of the stolen goods. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pringsewu Police, First Inspector Rosali, said the case began with a report from the victim, Sajimin (50). The victim lost a Honda Supra Fit motorcycle with license plate number B 6553 NRP, which was usually parked behind his house. "The victim only realized his motorcycle was missing when he woke up around 4:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time to perform ablutions. The vehicle was gone," said First Inspector Rosali, representing Pringsewu Police Chief, Senior Commissioner M. Yunnus Saputra, on Friday (February 13, 2026). The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026. However, the victim only reported the incident three days later after confirming that his motorcycle was truly missing. As a result, the victim suffered a loss of approximately IDR 5 million. Equipped with this report, the police launched an investigation. Officers followed various leads, including monitoring vehicle buying and selling activity on social media. As a result, the police discovered a post offering a motorcycle with identical characteristics to the victim's. Although the post was quickly deleted, its digital footprint had already been discovered. The investigation led to AP, who turned out to be a close neighbor of the victim. AP's whereabouts were traced in the Gedongtataan area, Pesawaran Regency. The police acted swiftly and arrested him at his in-laws' house on the afternoon of Thursday, February 12, 2026. Without resistance, AP confessed to the crime. During questioning, AP admitted to stealing alone. He sold the stolen motorcycle to JW for Rp 1.9 million. "The perpetrator claimed he needed money for his sick child's medical expenses. He used the money for daily needs and to buy a cell phone," Rosali explained. Based on this confession, the police immediately developed the case and arrested JW at his home two hours later. From the receiver, the police confiscated the victim's motorcycle, which had apparently been used for daily activities. JW admitted to the police that he knew the motorcycle he bought lacked proper documents. However, he bought it anyway because he needed a vehicle to cut grass. Both perpetrators are currently detained at the Pringsewu Police Station. AP is charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. JW is charged with receiving stolen goods, which carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. This case serves as a reminder that crime can occur even in close proximity.
