I Said Bye Bye To The Magistrate | Julius Malema Reacts After Being Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

Julius Malema was today sentenced to 5 years in prison. Here’s what happened, in plain terms: • A South African court convicted Julius Malema for illegally firing a rifle at a political rally in 2018. The charges included unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging a weapon in public. He received a 5-year jail sentence, plus additional penalties on related charges. Julius Malema was however released pending appeal, meaning he stays free while he challenges the ruling in higher courts. If the sentence is upheld, it could remove him from parliament and seriously impact his party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The case has triggered protests from his supporters and a lot of political tension. After the sentencing, Julius Malema was defiant and combative, not apologetic. Malema himself says the case is politically motivated and plans to fight it all the way to the top court.
