JOHN COFFEY - HANG THE CHOIR

Stream "Hang The Choir" by John Coffey here: https://johncoffey.lnk.to/hangthechoir About the song The lyrics of “Hang The Choir” were written in the wake of the story of Jacky Roozen. An inspiring story of a woman who was prohibited from swimming topless in a public swimming pool after having her breasts removed out of precaution. Basically, a top hurts, so not wearing one makes sense. She stood her ground and spoke up for her right not to be judged, and her story reached the general public, earning her the recognition she deserves and support from countless people. Striving for change and equality can (and usually does) meet severe resistance. Being different is often seen as a threat, with exclusion as the consequence. There are no more supposed witches at the stake. Metal heads are not automatically evil anymore. But there’s always someone who’s gonna be picked out as a scapegoat or refused for who they are. Just because the prevailing social norm demands it. Maybe we all know one. Who do you want to be? A bystander? Or someone who adds their voice to the ones who need it most? Speaking out might get trash thrown at you. But cleaning up is easier together. ⚡ FOR FANS OF: Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, Comeback Kid, Refused, The Callous Daoboys 🔥 GENRE: Post-Hardcore, Punk, Rock ‘n’ Roll Lyrics Thank god for witches in this little town But don’t let them single you out Your glance was a verdict, your whisper a stitch You dressed her in black and said: ‘Let’s burn the witch’ Keep your eyes on the canvas And take notes when I speak Keep your eyes on the canvas There’s something to say, something to say, let’s go Time to make the old retire The crooked, the bully, parochial mind The names of martyrs The songs of sirens drown The ones who forged the light Go, this is my sign This is the time Dogs of religion, these men with their itch Follow the voice, never question the pitch Keep your eyes on the canvas And take notes when I speak Keep your eyes on the canvas: There’s something to say, something to say Swing! The names of martyrs The songs of sirens drown The ones who forged the light Go, this is my sign This is the time The time when people should be hanging the choir But reason was the reason to be ready to die The time when people should be hanging the choir But reason was the reason to be ready to die Go, this is my sign This is the time The names of martyrs The songs of sirens drown The ones who forged the light This is my sign My time 🎬 Credits Song: Written & Produced by: John Coffey and Martijn Groeneveld Mixed by: Martijn Groeneveld Mastered by: Andy VanDette Video: Production company: blokmakers Director: Ivo Keulen Director of photography: Derek Zomer Producer: Lienke Roos 1st AC: Dylan Ortelee 2nd AC: Sander Grunsven Gaffer: Ryan Schaminee Decor: Jop Vissers and Julien Renou Production: Job Salemans and Liset Schaft Extras: Suzanne Hendriks Arthur Huiberts Carlijne Govers Anna Bisschop Jeanne Viet David Callens Shot & Directed by: Produced by: Follow John Coffey: Instagram:   / johncoffeymusic   TikTok:   / johncoffeymusic   Facebook:   / johncoffeymusic   Label: Long Branch Records Shop: https://lbr-shop.com Instagram:   / longbranchrecords   TikTok:   / longbranchrecords   Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/spv/lbrnlsu #johncoffey #posthardcore #punk #rocknroll
