[LAW SCHOOL PHILIPPINES] 5 Tips for Your First Week in Law School 2020

I remember the first time I stepped into law school almost a decade ago. I came to Manila with my mother and we took the train. It was the first station of Line 2 and I was super happy to find it very, very empty. We got off at the next station. Yes, we paid 12 pesos for the experience. My law school back then was not as grand as it looks now. The halls are newly painted but from the layout of the building, the size of the windows and the doors that it was clearly intended as a school for young people, teens or maybe small children. During the freshman orientation, I could not pay attention because I had diarrhea. I had an upset stomach partly because I was adjusting to the drinking water of Metro Manila. Ibang-iba ang lasa, kapatid, sa tubig sa aming probinsiya pero hindi maalis sa isip ko na baka ang tubig naming ay meron ding libreng Cholera. Part of my upset stomach was because I was deathly scared of what lays ahead of me. I came to law school with no friends. My classmates in college, and those who I applied with were already on their way to their second year. Wala na sila dito, at wala na rin akong naging balita sa kanila – bilang naiwan pa ako ng isang taon sa college. As much as you would like to think that I am jolly, kind and approachable here, I am incredibly shy and awkward in real life. I don’t have many friends and I am also awfully quiet. I can live through a day without saying anything – except for my prayers during meals and in the evenings. This was part of my struggle in law school, kapatid. I didn’t know anyone in Manila, and I certainly didn’t know anyone in law school. I struggled because I didn’t know what to expect in law school, how they were going to teach us or how we’re supposed to learn the law.
