The Naples City Council has approved the 12 guiding principles for the design of functional and energy modernization projects at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. This is the first step toward a comprehensive redesign in preparation for Italy's bid for Euro 2032. The goal is to make the Fuorigrotta stadium a modern, efficient, and sustainable facility capable of hosting international sporting and cultural events. The plan includes a redesign of the first tier, the construction of skyboxes, field boxes, and VIP areas in the central stand, and the symmetrical centering of the pitch. Escape routes and accessibility will be upgraded, not only for matches but also for other events. Also planned are improvements to health and catering services, the extension or replacement of the roof, and a highly green approach, including rainwater reuse and the installation of over 27,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels, with the prospect of creating a 1 MW Renewable Energy Community. Among the new features, the project includes up to 30,000 square meters of commercial space, with the possible creation of a "Maradona Experience" museum dedicated to the Argentine legend and the bond between the city and its champion. The goal is to make the stadium a vibrant hub even outside of matches, open to residents and tourists. New hospitality spaces, the redevelopment of the underground parking lot next to the stands, and a new access to the pitch between Curva B and the Tribuna, with measures to reduce the noise impact on surrounding homes, are also planned. The project aims to enhance the Piazzale Tecchio area and the Via Claudio underpass, recovering approximately 200 parking spaces for cars and motorcycles.
