They Tore Down Historic Hartford Houses - Here's What Was Lost! (Prospect Street)

Prospect Street once had some of Hartford, Connecticut's most elegant historic homes. This video focuses on a block of houses that were torn down for the expansion of nearby insurance company buildings. I cover the block of the west side of Prospect Street, between Central Row and Atheneum Street, where the homes of prominent citizens as Thomas Green (founder of the Hartford Courant), Gov. Joseph Trumbull, and others lived. The stable where George Washington kept his horse during his 1780 visit was also in this block. #hartford #historichouse #historicarchitecture #connecticut #history #connecticuthistory This video features images from the Library of Congress, the Connecticut State Library, the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, the Hartford History Center (Hartford Public Library), the New York Public Library and Lawrence Ploudre.
