The upper part can be reached via a panoramic funicular or a road that climbs through olive groves and vineyards. Here, the pace slows and everything revolves around the ancient reddish stones of the medieval brickwork, which give the town its nickname "Boccaccio's City," as the famous author of the Decameron was born and lived here. Walking along Via Boccaccio, the main street, you'll come across: Casa del Boccaccio, now a museum and study center dedicated to the writer; from the tower, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the surrounding hills. Palazzo Pretorio, the ancient seat of political power, recognizable by its facades adorned with coats of arms in terracotta, stone, and glazed ceramic. Its rooms preserve frescoes dating from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The Church of Saints Jacopo and Filippo, where the tomb of Giovanni Boccaccio is kept and where the relics of Saint Thomas the Apostle also rest.
