She Likes a Boy - Animatic - Greek Mythology

Hello! Couldn't resist using this song for this myth because it's the perfect blend of Egyptian and Greek, just like the myth!! Myth: Iphis (the one with dark hair) is born female, but his mother raises him as a boy because otherwise her husband would kill baby Iphis. Time skip, and now Iphis is engaged to a girl named Ianthe (the one with pink hair). The myth differs here. Some write that Ianthe knew that Iphis was female, while other versions say Ianthe didn't know. Either way, Iphis and his mother go to the temple of Isis (the Egyptian goddess of motherhood and protection) to pray that Iphis be turned into a male. Isis accepts the prayer and thus Iphis and Ianthe are married. This myth is complicated as it can be interpreted as the two being lesbians, where one is forced to transition to comply with societal expectations: marriage between a man and woman. While on the other hand it could also be read as a queer romance where Iphis is trans (female to male). It's a very short myth, but it's one that I've liked for a long time because of its queer interpretation. Plus, technically it's a Greek myth, but the goddess worshipped is Egyptian, so it's a fun way to mix the two together. !!!!!Happy Pride Month!!!!
