Kingdom of Heaven (2005) tells the true story of the Siege of Jerusalem in 1187 CE. The film focuses on the conflict between the Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem under King Baldwin IV, against Sultan Saladin and the Muslim forces. The main character of the film is Balian of Ibelin, a man who actually appeared in Jerusalem's history. He led the defense of the city with only 14 knights when Saladin's forces won the Battle of 1187 CE. The film was praised for portraying Saladin as a respected general for the Muslim faith, successfully establishing peace between all religions in Jerusalem.
