Backed by Woody Herman and the Young Thundering Herd, Sinatra brings renewed urgency to one of the most meaningful songs of his career. Written by Earl Robinson and Abel Meeropol, “The House That I Live In” was closely associated with Sinatra after he performed it in the 1945 short film of the same name, a landmark plea for racial and religious tolerance. The film received an Honorary Academy Award in 1946, and Sinatra returned to the song nearly three decades later for this televised Madison Square Garden performance, broadcast October 13, 1974.
