The beginning of a crocheted row of treble crochets in a pattern usually starts with 3 chain stitches, which serve as the first treble crochet. However, those three chains sometimes cause larger gaps at the beginning of the row. The edge is therefore not always perpendicular. In this video I show you how to start your row of double crochets with what looks like a first double crochet. This way you avoid the larger openings and you get a perpendicular edge.
