Postcolonial encounters in slum tourism | Meghan Muldoon | TEDxUW
Colonialism was founded upon and made possible by the creation of 'Us' and 'Them,' where 'Us' is civilized, educated, and free, whereas 'Them' is backward, ignorant, and in need of saving. Postcolonial theory helps us to look at the ways that colonized ways of thinking continue to permeate our lives today. Meghan looks at how tourism in the slums of South Africa can begin to break down some of the barriers that stand between us and them. Assistant Professor with Arizona State University This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
