3 reasons why your PTSD treatment is NOT working

PTSD treatment can be and likely will be an uncomfortable and difficult task. However, sometimes it seems like treatment is not working. Dr. McCleary gives his top three reasons why PTSD treatment may not be work and three ways to fix it. Reason #1: You are not ready How to fix it: talk with your therapist about your hesitations and concerns about treatment and refocus treatment of preparing you for deeper work. Reason #2: You are working on the wrong trauma How to fix it: sometimes people have experienced more than one traumatic event. It is important address the trauma that is affecting you the most first because often times this trauma is where the PTSD symptoms are stemming from. Working on another trauma may help with symptoms, but it may be less effective. Reason #3: You do not have the time. How to fix it: Making appointments on a consistent basis is extremely important with PTSD treatment. Part of the reason that it is so important is avoidance is a key symptom of trauma and not attending treatment on a regular basis can be viewed as avoiding. Craving out time in your schedule and making treatment a priority is extremely important. Bonus Reason: YOU ARE NOT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK How to fix it: DO IT!!!!
