Why Animal Crossing got rid of "rude" villagers

In older Animal Crossing games, villages would often say rude, mean and unfriendly things to players. But in more recent games like New Horizons, the villagers are now universally pleasant. Even villagers who are supposed to be "cranky" or "snooty" are generally nice to the player now. So why did Nintendo make this change? Why did Nintendo get rid of rude villagers? Let me explain!
