On day 1 I go to the zero kilometer marker at Songshan Railway Station in Taipei then start my circumnavigation of Taiwan. The “0 kilometer” marker at Taipei’s Songshan Railway Station serves as the starting point for Taiwan’s Cycling Route No. 1. The route circumnavigates approximately 939.5 kilometers following Provincial Highway No. 1 along the west coast and Provincial Highway No. 9 along the east coast with options to explore 13 branch routes leading to popular tourist destinations. Day one was definitely a shakedown day. I thought the day would be straight forward for navigation along the river then along the ocean but I soon found there are many dead end roads and the path isn’t a straight line along the water. When I decided to use my gps I found I could not zoom in to follow the roads. The detailed information for the map of the whole trip was too big so only a zoomed out version of the trail was saved to my gps. I ended up using my phone and needed to keep it charged with my battery but didn’t have things packed where I could find them easily so spent a lot of time finding the battery and charging cable, then more time later finding my lights when I found I would be riding after dark. Next was the hotel debacle which ended well in a big room with a big bath but I would have preferred to not have ridden after dark All lessons learned to make the rest of the trip easier and more fun! Day 22 Tamsui to Taipei 26.98 1127.21km Day 22 was a warm, beautiful day begging me to keep riding. It was a bitter sweet ending to a trip where the weather played a huge factor. The west coast everyone told me to avoid was flat, sunny and scenic apart from the city stretches with long, useless red lights. The east coast everyone raved about was cold, wet, and rainy the days I was riding it but I can see it is a happening place when the sun comes out and the surf towns come alive. I’m already planning to come back and do a sightseeing route by bike, train, bus, or whatever means is the best to maximize my time in the places I want to see and ride. I want to say thank you to Taiwan National Bike Route 1 for getting me off the main roads and providing bike paths on 90% of my route. Thank you to all of the drivers who slowed down and gave me plenty of room. Thank you to all my new friends I chatted with on this trip and to my long time friends who picked me up, hosted me, took me out, rode with me, sent me location links, and supported me in many other ways on this trip. And last but not least, thank you Taiwan for hosting my bike and I… we had a blast and will be back! #Taiwan #TaiwanCycling #BikeTaiwan #TaiwanByBike #CyclingLife #ExploreTaiwan #TaiwanAdventure #Bikepacking #CyclingTrip #TravelTaiwan #BicycleTouring #TaiwanTravel #TaiwanNature #Cycling #ExploreByBike #BikeTour #TaiwanBikeTrip #CyclingTour #TaiwanScenery #BikeAdventure #RoadCycling #BikeLife #TaiwanLandscape #TaiwanExplorer #CyclingLove #CyclingDaily #CyclingFun #Taipei #TaiwaneseCulture #BikingAdventures #TaiwanCyclist #TaiwanIsland #BikingLife #ExploreMore #NatureLover #AsiaTravel #Bikeride #CyclingJourney #BikeCulture #TaiwanCoast #TaiwanWestCoast #TaiwanEastCoast #Hsinchu #Baishatun #Shalu #Chiayi #Xingying #Tainan #Kaohsiung #Hengchun #Daren #Taitung #Chenggong #Fengpin #Hualien #Suao #Toucheng #Keelung #Tamsui #TaipeiCycling #TaiwanCyclingRoute1 #BikepackingAsia #BikingCulture #RideMore #ExploreTheWorld #CyclingPhotography #CyclingAdventures #TaiwanScenicRoutes #BicycleTravel #BikeWorld #ExploreByBike #EpicRides #AdventureCycling #SelfSupportedRiding #TouringByBike #CycleTheWorld #GoByBike #OutdoorLife #BeautifulDestinations #TaiwanStreetFood #TaiwanHiddenGems #TaiwanMountainViews #CyclingCommunity #CyclingMotivation #BikingCommunity #TaiwanRoadTrip #TaiwanBikeTour #CyclingLifeStyle #BikingIsLife #Taiwan2025 #CyclingChallenge
