I followed an abandoned railroad through the desert

I followed the remains of the historic El Paso & Southwestern Railroad across the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico — from Bisbee to El Paso. What’s left today is a “ghost railroad”: abandoned tracks, forgotten trestles, and small towns like Rodeo, Hachita, Columbus, and Lordsburg that once depended on the railroad for survival. Along the way, I explored what remains of this early 20th century rail line — and the stories it left behind. From the copper mines of Bisbee, to the deportation of striking miners in 1917, to the last surviving locomotive of the line in El Paso — this journey follows a route that once connected industry, people, and history across the Southwest. One of the most fascinating parts of this trip was visiting the abandoned depot in Hachita, New Mexico — and meeting Heber Richins, who is working to restore this piece of railroad history. This is more than just an abandoned place — it’s a look at how entire regions rose and fell with the railroad. --------------------- 🤝 Support the Hachita Depot Restoration: If you want to support Heber and help preserve this piece of railroad history: 👉 GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/45fe1a3d9 👉 Project updates (Facebook group):   / 7939118612799845   --------------------- 🖼️ Get a piece of this journey Some of the shots from this video are available as canvas prints: 👉 https://saschafox.com/collections/gho... --------------------- 🎬 Support the channel If you want to support my work and get early access to future videos: 👉 Memberships: https://saschafox.com/pages/memberships --------------------- 📍 Locations featured in this video: Bisbee, Arizona Apache, Arizona Rodeo, New Mexico Playas Valley, New Mexico Hachita, New Mexico Columbus, New Mexico Lordsburg, New Mexico Steins, New Mexico El Paso, Texas ------------------------
