This time, I'm sharing a city introduction/walking video of the new Matsuyama Station building on the JR Yosan Line, the central station of Matsuyama City, the prefectural capital of Ehime Prefecture. About the Opening of the New Matsuyama Station Building On September 29, 2024, JR Matsuyama Station, the gateway to Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, reopened with a new look. The opening of this new station building marked a major milestone for the region's transportation infrastructure. This video was filmed on September 30 and October 1. Background to the Opening The old station building was constructed in 1953 and enjoyed 71 years of use by Matsuyama residents. However, due to aging and traffic congestion, an elevated track project was underway. On September 28, 2024, the last train service from the old station building took place, bringing sad farewells to many residents and railway enthusiasts. That evening, a lights-out ceremony was held for the station building, bringing to a close 71 years of history. Past stationmasters and local residents gathered to mark the station's revival. Features of the New Station Building and Differences from the Old One The new station building features many modern features compared to the old one. The main differences are listed below: 1. Elevated Tracks: The new station building features elevated tracks, eliminating traffic congestion and improving safety. 2. Introduction of Automatic Ticket Gates: While manual ticket gates were the norm in the old station building, automatic ticket gates have been installed in the new building, improving convenience. 3. "Dandan Street" Commercial Area: The new station building features a new commercial area selling products from Ehime Prefecture, serving as a place to promote the region's appeal. 4. Barrier-Free Access: Elevators and escalators have been installed, making the station more accessible to everyone. 5. Enhanced Waiting Rooms: The new station building features waiting rooms on the first and second floors, and the "Taiwan Exchange Gallery" is also located on the second floor. The new Matsuyama Station will continue to be used by many people as a regional transportation hub and a tourist gateway.
