BYD Dolphin Surf Test Drive - SA's most economical EV!

I test drove the BYD Dolphin Surf Comfort model for a few days, and was super impressed with this little EV. It may be classed as a B-segment size vehicle but it is deceptively spacious inside, given the long wheelbase and the flat floor due to the blade batteries being located under the car. While it doesn't pretend to be a fast-accelerating EV, it brings the EV lifestyle and EV characteristics to the mass market in an affordable and economical package. Smooth driving, sharp handling and just punchy enough off the line to be a lot of fun. In my 356kms drive test, I averaged a consumption figure of just 12.2kWh/100kms, using 43kWh of energy in total. At an average Eskom rate of R3.00/kWh, the cost for this energy would have been R129, equating to a cost/km of just 36c. Impressive!
