In 2024, the Italian book market was worth approximately €1.53 billion for just under 104 million copies. By channel, brick-and-mortar bookstores accounted for approximately 55% of sales, online about 40% (dominated by Amazon), and large-scale retail trade accounted for the remainder. Over the past year, online stores have sold tens of millions of euros less in books, a decline only partially offset by bookstores.
