Crónicas y relatos de México - De la Romita a la Condesa (27/02/2014)
The diversity of architectural styles is what stands out in these neighborhoods: Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Neocolonial, Neo-Baroque, and Functionalist. The Roma neighborhood emerged in 1902, when circus entrepreneur Walter Orrin bought the land known as Potreros de Romita to build a modern neighborhood, whose streets are named after the Mexican cities where the circus was most successful. Together with the Orrins, the Lamm family dedicated themselves to selling and building the first houses. In this episode, we visit the town of Romita—a site that preserves historic buildings and plazas dating back to the pre-Hispanic era—La Casa Tomada, Plaza Río de Janeiro, as well as one of the defenders of the beautiful Roma neighborhood, Jacqueline Ducolomb. In the Condesa neighborhood, we visit Parque México, the Basurto building, and Plaza Popocatépetl.
