With this IC, we can control up to two motors individually. In this lesson, we will assemble the L293D on a breadboard, connect it to the Arduino, and control the motor's rotation in both directions. Arduino is an open-source, single-board electronic prototyping platform designed with an Atmel microcontroller with built-in input/output support, and a standard programming language that is essentially C/C++. Primarily for those who would not have access to more sophisticated controllers and more complicated tools. It can be used for the development of independent interactive objects, or even to be connected to a host computer. It does not have any networking capabilities itself, but it is common to combine one or more Arduinos in this way, using appropriate extensions called shields[10]. The host interface is simple and can be written in several languages. The most popular is Processing, but others that can communicate with the serial connection are: Max/MSP,[11] Pure Data,[12] SuperCollider,[13] ActionScript[14] and Java.[15] In 2010 a documentary about the platform was made called Arduino: The Documentary.
