The latter must be engaged by half pressing the shutter button. Sorry for the confusion! What I mean is that I found this configuration (AF-ON on the lens button) very useful with Pro Capture when I was trying to photograph small birds in flight near a feeder. The action was so fast and brief that I had to time very precisely when to engage the autofocus. Being able to do that with my left thumb on the lens made it so that my right hand’s only job was to activate Pro Capture, and then press the shutter button fully once the moment was right.
