We start by debunking the biggest myth about the topic: that having high abilities is synonymous with a high IQ, good grades in school, and an easy life. It's not. We go through Joseph Renzulli's three-ring theory, the difference between savant syndrome and high abilities — including the two most bizarre cases I've ever seen, of savant syndrome acquired after a lightning strike and a head trauma — and Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. Then we get into what few people talk about: — Why the diagnosis of high abilities almost always comes late in our generation, because this identification didn't exist when we were children. — Why IQ tests carry a Eurocentric and class bias that the industry doesn't admit — standardized based on white, rich, European, and American people. — Why are gifted children routinely mistaken for inattentive, rebellious, or lazy, when in reality they simply don't follow a logic that doesn't make sense to them? — How perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and fear of making mistakes almost always come as part of the package for those who have been pressured too much from a young age. And in the end, I shared, for the first time publicly, the reason I sought a neuropsychological evaluation: I entered a USP study on ADHD as a control group and left with a score I shouldn't have had. I went to understand, and the result was platinum — autism, ADHD, and giftedness, all at once, in my early 30s.
