How Stuff is Made - The Half Dollar Shot Glass
Sterling silver or pewter giftware, trophies, and other luxury goods are handmade by two separate artisans. The first is the spinner. A metal disc is clamped in a lathe. The spinner uses specialized tools to shape the sterling or pewter over a chuck much like potters do with clay in their hands on a spinning wheel. The piece then goes to the buffer who removes the spinning lines and polishes it to a bright or satin finish.
