3 Days Bikepacking | Dungog to Newcastle | Trains, Ferries & Bicycles
Things never go quite the way they are planned when it comes to bikepacking, but it doesn't mean it isn't a really enjoyable experience in a beautiful part of the world. I travelled to the most northerly point of the Opal Network in NSW; Dungog. From their, I rode via Black Camp Creek across to Stroud and then via Branch Lane down to Kurauh. Finally, I cut across country, through the Meadowie State forest to Newcastle where I caught the train back to Sydney. Riding my Giant Trance 2, 2019 fitted with Maxxis Ardent 2.25 tyres. New SLX brakes and XT rotors, and pulling a Pack 'n Pedal rack and bag from Thule. This was a fun, deeply satisfying trip. It had moments of pain, and hours of pleasure.
