Hello everyone on the Ckorpion TV channel! Today we will analyze one interesting coin that appeared at the Violity auction - this is a 2 kopeck coin from 1914 during the reign of Nicholas II. Link to the lot https://violity.com/ua/120347836-2-ko... At first glance, the coin is impressive: shiny, bright copper, as if it just came out of the mint. But let's not rush. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear: this specimen has undergone serious "processing". 🔍 Comparison with normal patina Here, for example, is a 3 kopeck coin from 1915. It looks natural: with an even dark patina, without excess shine, as copper should look after more than 100 years. Now look at the 2 kopecks - it's just "sunshine"! Bright shine, almost mirror-like, and not the slightest trace of patination or natural aging of the metal. 💬 What does this mean? Such a surface is a clear sign of mechanical or chemical cleaning. This can be polishing, processing with GOI paste, or the use of acid or special reagents. The purpose of such processing is to improve the appearance in order to sell at a higher price. But for numismatists, this is rather a minus. Experienced numismatists will support me, whoever agrees with this - put a LIKE! ⚠️ Why is this bad for the collection? Polishing damages the original surface structure. The coin loses that very historical depth: micro-scratches from the stamp, natural oxides, traces of aging. All this is important, especially if you collect not just beautiful round coins, but historical items. Yes, it shines. But this is, in fact, a reconstruction, not a pristine coin. 📉 How does it affect the price? If you take such a coin into a collection, the price should be lower. Sometimes - 2 or even 3 times lower than analogs with an original patina. For example: if a well-preserved copy without cleaning costs 700-900 UAH, then for such a shiny "polished" version - the price should not exceed 200-300 UAH, maximum. 🎥 The seller also has a video of this coin, where you can see: in the light it simply shines. But this shine is not a sign of high preservation, but the result of processing. Moreover, at an angle you can notice light abrasions and unnaturally smooth fields - another signal that the metal has been damaged. 📌 Result and my recommendations: If you still decide to buy - carefully study the edge, fields, general relief.
