Trump WH STUNNED as LEAKED Memo BLOWS UP Arrest Scheme

Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover the arrest of Beto Coral, a Colombian human rights activist and asylum seeker detained by ICE in Phoenix on June 16, the same day Secretary of State Marco Rubio personally signed a memo declaring him deportable. The memo stated that Coral's Instagram posts criticizing Abelardo de la Espriella, Trump's endorsed candidate in Colombia's presidential runoff, "undermined US foreign policy interests." Coral entered the U.S. legally in 2015, applied for asylum, and has a pending case. His father was a Colombian police captain killed four months after participating in the operation that located Pablo Escobar. ICE arrested Coral in front of his 12-year-old son five days before the Colombian election. De la Espriella won by one percentage point. Brian and Shant stress the critical distinction: if this were standard immigration enforcement, it would be one thing. But the Rubio memo says the quiet part out loud, tying deportability directly to political speech. A 2025 federal court ruling in AAUP v. Rubio held that non-citizens lawfully present "have the same free speech rights as the rest of us." Coral's family says he has been transferred between Phoenix, El Paso, and Louisiana and his name no longer appears in the ICE locator system.
