Often musicians that he had crosses paths with earlier in his career was invited, so the show was both introducing the musicians to TV audiences and way to reunite old friends. In this clip he is joined by the amazing Pee Wee Russell on clarinet and Jimmy McPartland on trumpet. If you have not read it the book Pee Wee Russell: The Life of a Jazzman is highly recommended. Mr Russell had a style on the clarinet that few succeded in imitating, but many tried. He improvised and sometimes got into a tight spot, but mostly ended up on his feet. The results was often some very exhilarating music, and often played standards could get lifted to totally new levels.
