Salman Rushdie brings a book to a knife fight
In August 2022, author Salman Rushdie was brutally stabbed during a speaking appearance, and though he survived, he lost one eye and the use of one hand — but mind, humour and irreverence were maintained. In an extended interview, CBC’s Nahlah Ayed spoke to Rushdie about the attack, using words as a weapon and freedom of expression. 00:00 ‘If you’re caught in a knife fight’ 03:08 An attack and the aftermath 07:29 The assailant 13:55 Past and future collide 18:07 The fatwa’s shadow 20:04 Freedom of expression 23:37 Religion 29:40 A world war of stories #interview #salmanrushdie #author Watch The National live on YouTube starting at 9 p.m. ET Subscribe to The National: https://www.youtube.com/user/CBCTheNa...
