KOMPAS.TV - Anti-coup protesters in Yangon, Myanmar, refused to disperse on Monday (March 1, 2021) local time. Security forces fired tear gas repeatedly at the anti-coup protesters. The protesters immediately ran away, washing their faces to reduce the effects of the tear gas. They then returned to the streets. They vowed to remain united as a show of defiance against the military's seizure of power one month ago. Amateur video footage from residents showed several security forces firing their weapons directly at the protesters. At least 18 people were reportedly killed and 30 others injured in Myanmar during this demonstration. Monks also joined the protest, marching along several streets in Mandalay. During the demonstration, the protesters held banners and posters rejecting the military coup on February 1. Thousands of protesters continue to take to the streets to protest the military coup in Myanmar on February 1. Doctor Sasa, the UN special envoy on behalf of the civilian government, said he is seeking to pursue action against the generals through an international tribunal. On Monday, detained Myanmar leader Aung Ung San Suu Kyi faced trial. After being detained on several charges, she was charged with two more offenses, a military attempt to compound legal charges and potentially prevent her from running in the elections the junta has promised to hold within a year.
