CRUSTING AROUND AN OSTOMY STOMA
The "Crusting Technique" can be used on raw skin surrounding an ostomy stoma to help protect the skin and allow it to heal. The crust is made to create a scab-like covering over the raw skin to allow the ostomy wafer/barrier to stick. The crusting procedure uses stoma paste and skin barrier wipes or spray. This technique is not recommended as prevention for irritated skin, only to help treat and protect already irritated or raw skin.
