Try This Way to Paint Water in Watercolor

In this watercolor tutorial, I’m painting a fountain and showing the water trick I use to make ripples and reflections feel connected — without painting a hundred tiny lines. The water is only a small part of this painting, but it does a lot of the work. I’ll show you how I protect the brightest water first, build the fountain reflections, add the darker ripple shapes, and then connect everything with a softer final layer so the water helps the whole fountain come alive. This lesson is especially helpful if you struggle with watercolor water, ripples, reflections, or knowing how much detail is enough. The Paint Along Pack for this tutorial is available inside Open Studio on Patreon. It includes the tracing templates, finished painting reference, colors used, and tutorial link all in one place. 👉 Paint Along Pack / Patreon:   / membership   Colors used in this painting: Belladonna by Michael Harding Indigo by Schmincke Burnt Sienna by Winsor & Newton Cobalt Turquoise Permanent Rose Indian Yellow #watercolor #watercolortutorial #watercolorwater Chapters 0:00 The water trick that makes the fountain come alive 0:39 Protecting the brightest water 1:06 Underpainting the fountain 2:36 First color layer in the water 3:05 Building stone texture and shadows 4:35 Repeated architecture in fast forward 5:11 Creating depth in the columns 8:12 Adding the fountain reflections in the water 12:57 Try this way: darker ripple marks before the end 15:26 Finishing the spout area 19:28 Connecting the water with a soft glaze 20:00 Removing masking and final water pass 21:39 Lifting and breaking the brightest water 23:18 Final takeawa 🎨 Want more watercolor tips & painting demos?
