D2 is a strange mix of various genres: interactive film, survival horror, role-playing game, arcade shooting gallery, and hunting simulator. At the same time, it has an unsettling, melancholic atmosphere, foreshadowing the end of the world. For its time, the game boasted beautiful, high-tech graphics, excellent music composed by Kenji Iino himself, and a crazy, shocking plot, presented in fragmented and jumbled pieces. It is full of innuendo, references, sexual subtext, symbolism, and metaphors. To even partially understand it, you'll have to pick apart the information you've gained during your playthrough and put it back together, like a giant puzzle with approximately 40 percent of its pieces missing.
