GOSPEL OF THE DAY — June 1, 2026 🙏 "The rejected stone has become the cornerstone" — The parable A man carefully plants a vineyard, entrusts it to some farmers, and leaves. He sends his servants to collect the fruit—they beat them, insult them, kill them. He sends his beloved son—they kill him too. And they think that in this way the vineyard will become theirs. Today's Gospel — Mark 12:1-12 — is one of the harshest and most lucid parables in the entire New Testament. It is not just the story of Israel and its leaders—it reflects a logic we know well. That of those who treat God's gifts as their own achievements. That of those who eliminate Christ from their lives because He is a nuisance. And then the turning point: the rejected stone becomes the cornerstone. Those who are eliminated are resurrected and become the foundation of everything. In the Angelus of October 2, 2011, Benedict XVI explored this parable with Saint Augustine: God cultivates us like a field to make us better.
