Gurkhas - The Most Fearless Warriors in History | Simple History Reaction

Original video:    • Why are Gurkhas the most bad*ss warriors i...   If you like what you see here, please go support Simple History and drop them a like/sub—this reaction is meant to add commentary, not replace their work! What I Cover in This Reaction Why I picked this topic: I’ve had requests for more history from India/Nepal and the surrounding region, and the Gurkhas have always fascinated me. Personal connection: My grandfather served in WWII in the China–India–Burma (CIB) theater with an engineer mapmaking unit, and his stories/souvenirs helped spark my interest in the region. Anglo–Nepalese War context (1814): The video’s overview of early British encounters with Gurkha fighters, including the Battle of Nalapani, and why Gurkhas developed such a fearsome reputation. My fact-check/commentary moments: Clarifying that the “600 Gurkhas” at Nalapani included non-combatants (women/children), not only warriors. Pointing out that British numbers are often stated low; I discuss why the force may have been larger than “1,600.” Noting the siege outcome: the fort didn’t fall purely by force—cutting off the water supply was decisive. VC stories highlighted in the video: Reactions to several standout accounts (WWI/WWII and modern examples) and what makes these narratives so enduring. Kukri discussion (and my WWII kukri): I show/talk about my grandfather’s kukri—its size/weight, utility pieces, and why the video’s depiction looks off. I ask for help identifying etched markings and the meaning of the notch near the blade (if anyone has reliable sourcing, I’d love to see it). Your Turn If you’ve got recommendations for other “legendary unit” videos (or want more coverage of Nepal, Tibet, India, Burma/Myanmar, Thailand, etc.), drop them in the comments.
