The first records of the town come from 1635 and are related to the construction of Fort Władysławowo by King Władysław IV. At the inn in Chałupy, a fishermen's settlement was established, formerly known as Budziszew or Ceynowa after the surnames of its inhabitants. When Gdańsk handed over the Puck starosty to the Polish king, the name of the town where 4 fishermen lived at that time is mentioned once again in a document from 1678. The current name has been in use since 1920 and probably came from the old fishermen's houses in the area. From 1922, a railway station on the route to Hel was opened here, and then the rapid and rapid development of the bathing area began. Numerous guesthouses, private lodgings and campsites began to appear. Like all seaside towns, Chałupy prides itself on its fishing and maritime traditions. One of the most interesting attractions of Chałupy is the open-air event "Kaszëbsczi bôtë pod żôglama" (Kashubian boats under sail) held here every year in the second half of July.
