El cultivo del ka´a en Paraguay

The women of Tavapy have demonstrated something that seemed impossible in Paraguay: it is possible to stand up to soy monoculture with yerba mate, a tree species already known to the Guarani people. By cultivating ka’a, its name in Guarani, and with the support of WWF, they are preventing deforestation of the Atlantic Forest. Processing the yerba mate for infusions or as a powder for culinary use is their livelihood.
