Classic TV Theme: North and South (Bill Conti • Full Stereo)

Miniseries Monday: 'North and South' (1985) was the first of three miniseries based on the trilogy by author John Jakes. Book I, produced by David L Wolper, followed two friends attending West point who find themselves on opposing sides as concerns over a civil war grow. The cast was impressive, even by miniseries standards, and the production still ranks as the #4 miniseries of all time. (Wolper's Book II follow-up was also a success, but Book III, produced by other hands eight years later, was not well received.) Book I was given 10 Emmy nominations, one of them for Bill Conti's sweeping theme and score, but only the costumes got a statuette. 00:00 Opening titles. 03:34 End credits.
