2 Ways to Fight Fear and Shame of Selling
It’s ok to feel fear, anger or frustration when you’re selling. It’s ok to have those feelings; it’s not ok to act like they’re true. You read that right. It’s a big difference. I received an email from someone who shared that they were ashamed to sell. That is a BIG emotion. Here’s the deal. It’s ok to feel like you aren’t good at selling, or even feel frustrated that you have to sell at all. (Wouldn’t it be amazing if we didn’t have to learn the skill of selling and people just flocked to us like magic? That would be incredible.) We have to learn how to sell. We’re going to make mistakes though, and that can be frustrating. There’s also a level of sadness for the people who feel like they should be further along than they are on their journey and they take that out on sales. Sales is an easy target. We want to share what we have. We created our business because we love what we do and we want to see other people enjoy it. You didn’t create your business so you could keep it to yourself. When you’ve put in all this time and energy and sales don’t go your way it can bring up these emotions. There are two things you can do to shake off the shame around selling. First, make sure you are in the right state of mind as you sit down to sell. (Don’t wait for the moment … manage your own state of mind.) Second, remember that sales is a skill. You can LEARN it. If you can learn how to read, if you can learn to tie a shoe, if you can learn to talk to people you can learn to sell. Take the time you need to learn sales.
