Tilt test

Historically, the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope relied on patient history. The medical history remains fundamental. Since the 1980s, the prolonged passive orthostatic tilt test has been used for clinical purposes. By eliciting a vasovagal reflex in susceptible individuals, it is used as a diagnostic method. Its use has also led to the identification of other clinical conditions, such as postural tachycardia. Furthermore, it is used as a tool to study the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms.
