Lou Williams - Savvy Scorer 16/17
Lou Williams. 2015’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year. Third in Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2017. One of the best bucket getters in a two-for-one situation, to the point that you know he’s going to have the ball in his hands at the end of the quarter, 45 seconds to go, generating the “Lou-for-one.” This past season, he was averaging a career-best 18.6 points per game (while shooting a career high 38.6% from 3 point land) for the Los Angeles Lakers before getting traded to Houston. His numbers took a little bit of a dive with the Rockets, but he still finished averaging a career-high 17.5 points per game through 81 games, not to mention a decent showing during the NBA Playoffs. While you can argue how effective Sweet Lou is in other aspects of the game, any way you want to break it down, the man can get you buckets. He’s got a knack for shot making. He’s got the range, the ability to draw fouls, the bag of tricks that have you leaning one way, where he goes the other, only to force contact and get the And-1. Lou Will is crafty and is as creative as anyone in the league at getting his shot off. He’s stronger than he looks, his handle lets him exploit gaps in the defense, making enough out of a seam when it seems like he’s got nothing. His runner and floater games are pretty, but the one thing that seems to stand out about Lou is that he seems to be drifting to the side on a lot of his shots. The ability to stay on balance while doing that isn’t something you should necessarily teach a player, but boy, does it get the job done. Lou Williams was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers. His rookie year was the last full season the great Allen Iverson would spend with the Sixers. Famously, Lou was AI’s rook, and you can certainly tell that Lou has been influenced by the Answer’s style, both on and off the court.
