The new Commander Career has arrived in IL-2 Korea—and my first commander survived exactly three days. In this first look at IL-2 Korea Career Mode, we take command of the 8th/429th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, manage its pilots, aircraft and supplies, and personally fly two combat missions in the F-80C Shooting Star. Our commander is Major Henry Chick: a skilled and courageous veteran pilot with an official discipline rating of zero. His first assignment sends twelve F-80s to intercept an enemy bomber formation. The mission ends with seven confirmed aircraft destroyed, six supply requests earned, two Shooting Stars lost and the squadron’s first permanent casualty. On the next combat day, we use those supply requests to obtain replacement pilots, new aircraft and additional fuel before selecting an attack against an active enemy airfield. Armed with HVAR rockets and napalm tanks, the squadron crosses the front to destroy parked aircraft, artillery and airfield infrastructure while enemy MiG-15s scramble to defend the target. The mission goes well.
