However, most alarms have this output with negative signals on the wires, and often the car locks are activated by a positive signal, making it impossible for the alarm to perform this function. To correct this, it will be necessary to install a signal conversion relay and transform the negative signal into a positive one. This conversion needs to be done with relays, and the most common ones we find are the 4-pin 40Ah universal relays. These have 4 pins and the connection is as follows: pins 30 and 86 with positive signal, pin 85 alarm lock signal and pin 87 output to the car's central locking system. In this way, when receiving the negative locking signal on pin 85, the relay sends the same signal but positive on pin 87 and thus the polarity is reversed. Two relays will be used, one for each lock wire. Although it works perfectly with these relays, there is the possibility of using better ones because these are large and almost the size of the alarm control unit, in addition to the activation capacity of up to 40ah and the activation of locks does not consume even 1ah, which makes the use of these relays oversized for this case. The most coherent thing in this case is to use mini relays because the 2 together are the size of half a relay of the normal 4 pins and optimize a lot of space in the alarm wiring. Mini relays can be found in electronics stores that sell electronic components or on Mercado Livre. I usually disassemble old alarm control panels because they have these mini-relays on the boards, and they can be easily removed and reused in a project like this, for example. The connection principle is exactly the same; only the pin positions change slightly, and it will be necessary to solder the wires to the pins. This type of adaptation procedure to make systems compatible is increasingly common in cars because we have more and more varied cars with different electrical systems, which forces us to make adaptations to make everything work well.
