The Artery: Norfolk Southern's Chicago Line Across Northwest Indiana

Very few freight rail lines across the United States are host to the trains of six separate railroads, have daily train counts that can at times nearly reach 100, and feature a broad range of scenery from urban canyons, to industrial wastelands, to national parks and broad open forests and rolling hills, but Norfolk Southern's iconic Chicago Line has done it for decades. I've been lucky enough to have the rail line a stone's throw away from me all my life, and have always felt "maybe someday" a video would come of it. With the recent buzz of potential mega mergers these last several months, I felt it necessary to expedite said project and take a look at the contemporary Chicago Line across my stomping grounds. In this video, we'll follow the line from the shadows of the Chicago Skyway on the city's southeast side, and across Northwest Indiana through The Region's industrial complex, revered duneland, and take a trip thru the Valparaiso Moraine following trains up and over Otis Hill, ending at the top of the hill in Pinola. We'll see plenty of Norfolk Southern mainline freights and locals as well as tons of Amtrak, CPKC, CSX and even Indiana Harbor Belt trackage rights trains working up and down the line.
