🔨 After watching this video, your neighbors will call you a genius! I'll teach you how to make your own lime paint 💪 Today I'm sharing the recipe, or at least how to make our own lime paint. We're talking about a homemade paint that has great covering power, is affordable, and above all, is very healthy—even more so than the more expensive and toxic-free paints on the market. The preparation is very simple; all you need is hydrated lime or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide), which is the whitest lime available. Hydraulic lime is useless because it requires water to carbonate and set (yes, hydraulic lime does both), and the paint dries very quickly. However, calcium hydroxide carbonates (hardens) in the presence of CO2, which is why lime paint looks like a sheet of stone. Now, to this lime we must add water or water with cactus slime (let it sit for 24 hours to release "slime") until the water covers the lime by 1 cm. It is expected that the lime will quickly absorb the water, so you may need to add more water throughout the day. It is also very beneficial to beat or mix with a clean stick. Add the ferrite (color) if you consider it and let it sit for 24 hours. IMPORTANT: Sometimes the lime was poorly stored and carbonation occurred (Carbonation in hydrated lime is a process by which calcium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide present in the air to form calcium carbonate. This chemical reaction is part of a natural phenomenon that occurs over time.) Therefore, it may not work. Therefore, we should ALWAYS use lime that was properly stored in its tightly closed bag and in a cool, dry place. Following the steps mentioned above, all that's left is to apply the paint. This is done with a brush. It's important to stir the paint regularly to prevent it from settling. It's very similar to painting with chalk paint. Something I didn't mention in the video is that the surface for applying the lime paint must be clean, like any other paint. In some cases, you'll need to scrape it a bit to remove loose or dirty areas, but that's all. And finally, I wanted to emphasize that there are various types of natural paints, that many people are interested in these health-related topics in the spaces we live in, and that many companies and small entrepreneurs are also creating paints with a better impact on health than the typical ones on sale. Finally, I would like to warn you that commercial lime or chalk paints may contain VOCs, so it's important to always read what they're made with. Just because it says lime paint doesn't guarantee that it's healthy.
