This is 'Anmok-i,' an Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin that has been staying alone in the waters around Gangneung Port for over ten months. Measuring 2.2 meters in length and weighing 130 kilograms, it is estimated to be a young male, approximately five or six years old. Taking advantage of its habit of following ships, the rescue team used a jet ski to lure Anmok-i into the enclosure inside the port. The rescued Anmok-i was loaded onto a special vibration-free vehicle accompanied by a veterinarian and headed to the Ulsan Whale Ecology Experience Center. Recently, large wounds presumed to have been sustained from colliding with the hull or propeller were also confirmed. The rescue was carried out as an exceptional measure based on the judgment that the risk of death would increase if this behavior worsened. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to determine the release site for Anmok after consulting with domestic and international experts once his treatment is completed.
