Hey everyone, the portfolio and aptitude tests for design programs are currently underway. We met during our aptitude test and ended up studying together. In this video, we want to share our tips for a great portfolio and the test itself. (The requirements and procedures for the tests vary from university to university, of course. Our tips are based on our experiences at Münster University of Applied Sciences.) Good luck with your aptitude test. You can do it! 😊 PROCESS: 1. Portfolio Review Practical Exam (Aptitude Test) Interview (Varies from university to university) 1.2 Ask yourself these questions beforehand: Why do you want to study design/What are your goals? Why are you a good fit? Why this university? ... Portfolio Implementation: 2. Mandatory Internship An agency internship is more practical than, for example, a printing company internship. 3. Portfolio Review In Münster, there was a portfolio theme. The theme was usually formulated very generally, allowing for a wide range of possible approaches. Don't just use your artwork – because design is solution-oriented. Questions for generating ideas: What problems do you encounter in everyday life, and how could they be solved? What is currently on your mind? Can this be expressed in a project? What issue do you want to raise awareness about? What do you have suggestions for improvement? What do you miss in your daily life? /or what do others miss in their daily lives? Questions for generating ideas: What problems do you encounter in everyday life? Portfolio Concept: Design always attempts to solve a problem Important: The portfolio needs a clear theme Think outside the box Go to a portfolio review session Get tips and tricks from instructors, ask questions 5. Portfolio Style Work can be implemented in different styles Also show the development of the processes: How did this solution come about? Include a sketchbook APPROPRIATION TEST 6. Practical Exam: In Münster, you will receive an assignment for which you will have several hours to complete. This focuses on a coherent concept. Even if you can't perfectly implement the ideas, it's much more important to be able to explain why you did what you did. Later interview with lecturers and students at the university - questions about you and your portfolio 7.
