I Lived with an Indigenous Family for Day of the Dead in Janitzio, Mexico
An unforgettable and authentic experience in the heart of Mexico. Living with the lovely Castro-Guzman family, Indigenous to Janitzio, I shared daily life, meals, stories, and preparations for the beautiful celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). From helping create ofrendas to witnessing intimate family rituals, I experienced firsthand the Purepecha people’s dedication, traditions, and warmth. This is a story of connection, culture, and moments that stayed with me long after leaving the island.
