Walter Robinson Let the Music Play
James Kalm, after an hour and a half in a dentist’s chair getting a root canal, made a beeline to south SoHo. Your correspondent’s desire was to take in the latest Walter Robinson exhibition, “Let The Music Play” at Jeffrey Deitch. This offering is a carefully curated selection of late works by one of New York’s most beloved artist/critic, who passed away in February, 2025. Presenting many classic themes, the show also highlights a group of late paintings that employed AI and Chinese fabricators. From presentations of the perfect cheeseburger, to depictions of steamy, kitsch pin ups, Robinson was a master at capturing mass media images of commercial desire. This program was recorded May 21, 2026. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
