Avtar Singh Brahma (1967–1988) was a prominent Sikh kharku associated with the Khalistan movement during the insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s. Born in the village of Brahmpura in Tarn Taran district, he became involved with the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) and later emerged as one of its leading figures after the deaths of several senior militants. Supporters regarded him as courageous and deeply committed to the cause of an independent Sikh state, while the Indian government designated him a wanted militant responsible for violent activities. He was killed in 1988 during a police operation, and his life and legacy remain the subject of sharply differing interpretations. For many supporters he is remembered as a martyr, whereas others view him through the broader context of the violence and loss associated with the Punjab insurgency.
